Hello. You might know me already, but there is a pretty good chance you don't. My name is Ben, and I do stuff. Lots of different stuff. One of the things I like to do is work with computers. Like many of us in the IT field, I like to play a good game every now and then. Unfortunately, I get very little time to do that, but when I do, I play a lot of older games. Why? Well, there are lots of reasons, but the biggest one is that I haven't played them before. I grew up in the golden age of video games, but my family could never have afforded a computer back in the 80's or early 90's. I missed out. On a lot. So, it is kind of nice to go back and try out many of these old games that I never got to play or even see in their heyday. Quite a few people are into retro gaming these days, but if you happen to be my age, it's just called gaming.
I love to play many of the titles and series that I grew up with. I also dig emulation. That's right, I said emulation. It's kind of a dirty word amongst the more snobby of the retro game collectors, and I can understand why. My goal here, however isn't to collect. I just want to finally get to play some of the games from my youth that I thought I would never see anywhere, except in a video game magazine. When and where I can, I will use original hardware, however it should probably be noted that mostly I am going to do a lot of older PC games, but I will endevour to mix it up a bit. I plan on doing some of the gaming on my trusty Toshiba Libretto 100ct, but I actually own a few machines from which I will be trying out a number of older games. In point of fact, I own two Librettos, plus a slew of older desktops and a few laptops. This should be fun.
So, hopefully soon, I will have some content coming up on this blog that you can actually read. I would put a bunch of cool, hi-res pics on here, but I don't feel like futzing about with finding an external host for them. The way Blogger handles multimedia content could be improved, but it's not my job to improve it, so I will leave it at that. Still, I am hoping to cover some of the hardware and software that I am using to play these old games, as well as reviews of the games themselves.
With a little luck, I may actually find enough time to play some games, and get my first few reviews done soon, and we will see how things progress from there.
Thanks,
- Ben
